AEB (Autonomous Emergency Braking)

When vehicle is not under ACC mode and driver is driving normal, if the driver meets dangerous situations, such as the vehicle is closed to the front vehicles, pedestrians or other obstacles (the distance is less than the safety range). The Autonomous Emergency Braking system will active braking to avoid or reduce collision, and make the driving more safely.  It's important to note that, however, the AEB system may not be able to stop the vehicle completely.

Generally speaking, the AEB consists of vehicle Collision Imminent Braking System (CIB) and Dynamic Braking Support System (DBS). When AEB system detect the vehicle is under dangerous situation, the CIB system will activate emergency braking if driver do not take any action; and if driver did not exert enough braking action, the DBS system will increase braking force to help diver to avoid collision.

The AEB system has different names in different manufacturers, such as the Pre-Collision System(PCS) of TOYOTA, the Collision Mitigation Brake System(CMBS) of HONDA, and the Pre-Safe System of Mercedes-Benz etc.

ACC (Adaptive Cruise Control)

The Adaptive Cruise Control system(ACC) is developing based on Cruise Control System(CCS). CCS limit the speed only, it still needs the driver to control the steering wheel and the brakes, while ACC can help the driver coordinate the steering wheel and brake.

In addition to driving according to the speed set by the driver, it also uses radar, laser or stereo camera to detect the distance to the front vehicles. When the distance is too close, it will adjust the speed automatically to maintain a safe distance from the vehicle in front. When the front vehicle speed up or pulls away, the system will accelerate again to the preset speed automatically.

ACC technology is widely recognized as a key constituent part of future generations of smart vehicles, as it can help driver to maintain optimal spacing affect between vehicles and reduce driver's operation mistakes when driving, it will bring safety and convenience to driver and increase road capacity.
